Through UC’s ServeIT program, local nonprofits receive wage assistance to support student work, like that of Anna Myrvold and Maddy Welly, both marketing majors in UC’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business, Marketing majors, at UC, who are now working in their second semester with the N.E.R.D.S organization, whose mission is to inspire the inner nerd to learn for life through engaging hands-on learning activities, defining a NERD as anyone who desires to learn.

As Digital Marketing Specialists at N.E.R.D.S, Anna and Maddy are leading the social media marketing team and developing its social media strategy. In fall 2020, they developed a digital marketing plan, which included a content calendar and redesign of the Facebook and Instagram pages. They also developed Motivational Mondays and Feature Fridays campaigns, and signed the organization up for opportunities like Google Adwords and Canvas for nonprofits.

As returning co-ops this spring, Anna and Maddy hit the ground running. With a focus on increasing engagement on social media platforms in the first 30 days of the spring semester, their work has resulted in:

  • 125.5% increase in accounts reached
  • 72.9% increase in content interactions
  • 102.8% increase in total followers

Awareness continues to grow, and more individuals and organizations inquiring about the services N.E.R.D.S offers. “The opportunity to work with the ServeIT program has greatly benefited the N.E.R.D.S, organization through the co-op work that Anna and Maddy are doing with us,” said Tonkia T. Bridges, M.Ed Executive Director.
