It’s never been more affordable to hire a co-op student.
UC offers a number of grants and funding opportunities to subsidize, and sometimes completely cover, the cost of your student hire.
Up to $4,800
Per student hire for small businesses (fewer than 50 employees)
Through UC’s NEXT Apprenticeship Program, we are able to offset the talent crunch by providing a continuous source of trained student talent, while providing up to $4,800 per student hire for businesses with fewer than 50 employees.
All that is needed for a small business to take advantage of this funding is to:
• Go through a brief online training on how to work with students
• Hire a student as a W2 employee
• Provide feedback on the student’s performance
• Provide a safe work environment
• Match all funds provided for student wages

Up to $1,000
Per student hire for non-profits
As the University of Cincinnati seeks to broaden its impact in the community, connecting non-profits with well-trained student talent is crucial. After students complete courses to prepare for computing- and informatics-related apprenticeships, nonprofits can hire students as apprentices and receive up to $1000 per student to help pay the student’s wages through SERVE-IT. This initiative is a cost-effect, mutually beneficial opportunity for organizations with computing and informatics-related projects, such as website development or database management.
